f="http://leftish.tumblr.com/post/18106177797/dear-president-obama">DEAR PRESIDENT OBAMA:

Please don’t feel a need to jump to respond to Rick Santorum, Mitt Romney, Franklin Graham or any of their Right-Wing Religious cronies, who are trying to question your religion.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO DEFEND YOURSELF, or even treat this as a serious or appropriate subject!

Sane voters don’t give a rap about your religion!  We want a President who we can trust to lead our country, and to uphold the Constitution — that’s what matters to us!

Your religion should not be up for public discussion.

You know why?

Because YOU ARE NOT RUNNING FOR POPE IN CHIEF!

YOU ARE RUNNING FOR COMMANDER IN CHIEF!

So, please, Mr. President, instead of parrying their attack by (once again) defending your faith, how about bypassing that conversation completely, and responding with a statement something like this:

“Perhaps my Republican friends are unfamiliar with the doctrine of ‘SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE’ or the Treaty of Tripoli which states:

“The Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.”

This document was unanimously approved by the United States Senate and signed by President John Adams on June 7, 1797.

Now that the economy is improving, suddenly the GOP is poking around looking for other angles from which to launch their attacks.

Well, my faith is nobody’s business but my own.  It is not up for a vote.  The Presidential Election is not about any religion.  Nor is it a popularity contest to decide who is the best Christian!

There are over 300 religions practiced in the United States, as well as atheism and agnosticism.  As President, I respect everyone, no matter what their religious beliefs.   As an American, I am proud of the principles upon which our Melting Pot nation was founded, especially the principle of FREEDOM of RELIGION.

There are so many pressing issues that our nation is facing right now. Our citizens are trying to manage their own lives.  They want to see us debate solutions, not throw mud at each other over made-up issues.

I will happily discuss our differences on Governmental Policies, however I am not willing to speak about my own personal religious practices, because I do not consider it an appropriate topic of discussion to bring into the public forum, in this, a nation which is founded on the doctrine of Separation of Church and State.

The American people deserve better.”
