Political Proverb
Sadly, I’m guilty of prospering WAY too many of these companies. I’d like to see these giant corporations downsized and/or rejected by “We the People” and, instead, I’d like to see the citizens create small, local coops - not just for food, but for other goods, too. I miss the Mom and Pop mentality!!
Let’s cut out the middlemen!
I’ve seen this before - it’s still good!
I just signed it! I added this comment:
“Corporations are NOT PEOPLE….at best they are GROUPS of people, ..however, they do not breathe, or have a heart beat, they were not born, nor will they die, they do not have eyes, ears or hands, and they cannot sign a petition like this.
I am a Person, however, Corporations are not People.”
Some things never change…
We’re on to you, Tea Party!
HA HA! THAT’S RICH!
Can corporations eat, or sleep, or give birth? Do they have two arms, two legs, and a head. Do they poop? Do they experience feelings like joy, and love? Do they have families that they visit at Christmas time? Do they have pets who they care for and love? Do they argue with their spouses? Do they attend school? Do they write books, or make films, or take photographs, or paint, or make sculptures, or engage in any creative pursuits whatsoever? Do they go to weddings, graduations, parties or funerals?
I admit it, I’m confused by this statement…in WHAT WAY are Corporations People, Mitt?
A report released this month by Public Campaign demonstrates just how important it is for Americans to battle corporate special interests and reclaim our democracy. The group’s research finds that thirty big corporations actually spent more money lobbying the federal government between 2008 and 2010 than they spent in taxes. For example, General Electric — one of the top 10 most profitable companies in the world — got a net tax rebate of $4.7 billion during this period. Meanwhile, it spent $84 million lobbying the federal government.
Here’s the full list of the 30 corporations identified and what they paid in federal taxes as opposed to lobbying:
I found this on my Facebook Wall. I’m not sure if this is actually a Jefferson quote…but, hey, even if it isn’t, it seems like something he might have said, or at least would have agreed with.
