The Republican National Committee has said it’ll kick in whatever it takes to keep Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in office.
But Democrats in Washington won’t commit to spending big, even though their candidate has been out raised 25-to-1 so far. And in Wisconsin, that’s left the local activists fuming.

Truth is, lots of people are saying that, much as we don’t like it, we won’t be able to change the system overnight…so it might be better to do what the Tea Party did, and infiltrate the current system by Primary Challenging Conservative Democrats, and getting Progressives into office.
They are saying: HEY, PROGRESSIVES! RUN FOR OFFICE!
“I don’t think Democrats have learned this lesson from the Tea Party, and Liberals haven’t. What the Tea Party did is they had these protests, and then, what did they go do? They go out and they organize, and they Primary people, and they target Republicans as much as Democrats…and then they go out and VOTE..and then they win elections.” ~ Josh Barro, forbes.com
if his billionaire Daddy would only let him…
She encouraged me to give my money to the Democratic Party, saying:
“Want to know why it’s so critical that we keep the Senate in Democratic hands in 2012? Just look at the ridiculous antics by House Republicans over tax cuts.
Their priorities are crystal clear: The House GOP goes to the mat to safeguard the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans who need them the least — but then they work overtime to try to block the payroll tax cut which keeps more dollars in the pockets of middle-class families, many living paycheck to paycheck. Unbelievable.
I’m fighting the GOP’s reckless policies with my Democratic colleagues every day in the U.S. Senate. But in 2012, our majority is at risk — and, we need to do everything we can to elect good Democrats to the Senate who will keep that progressive firewall in place and stop the extreme right-wing agenda from taking root on Capitol Hill.”
[Hmm…so it seems like Barbara Boxer is saying that the “good Democrats in the Senate” have been keeping “that progressive firewall in place”? Um…I haven’t seen much of that. In fact, it doesn’t look like that at all to me…it looks like the “good Democratic Senators have been AIDING, not STOPPING the “extreme right-wing agenda from taking root on Capitol Hill”. I, myself would not call politicians like Carl Levin, Dick Durbin, Chris Dodd, Ben Nelson, Mary Landrieu and others “good Democratic Senators”? They have sold out the 99%…WTF are you thinking? What kind of wool do you think you are pulling over our eyes Senator Boxer?]
Here’s my Response:
Dear Ms. Boxer:
I would rather vote another Democrat into power than re-elect the traitors who are in power right now. They vote the will of the corporations and the military industrial complex, not the Will of “WE THE PEOPLE’.
You, Ms. Boxer, are one of them, and can no longer be trusted to vote MY WILL…you voted in favor of the NDAA Act, for Christ’s sake! No, I’m done. I hope you get challenged from the Left, by someone who is not in bed with the 1%, someone who will vote the way I WANT them to, on EVERY VOTE.
You no longer demonstrate courage - you do what you are told - but not what you are told by your constituents, you do what the Democratic Trolls in Congress tell you to do. You have allowed yourself to be bullied out of voting for WHAT IS RIGHT!
As a matter of fact, the Democrats are not going to save us. We’re going to save ourselves. Our entire political process is mired in a myriad of corporate interests and we know it. The Democrats just like to play it like they’re the party of the people, but they’re really not. They’re playing along with it, too. And we know that.”
~ Joel Northom, protester at Democratic 2012 Fundraising Event
Republicans have proposed doing it entirely through spending cuts, whereas the Democrats have bravely fought back, insisting that we do it ALMOST entirely through spending cuts.”
~ Jon Stewart
I don’t expect Obama’s big jobs plan to make a shit of difference. I expect gridlock, Republican blocking and Democratic wimpering.
I am losing steam with this partisan politics bullshit.
The GOP’s job is to block legislation, the Dems job is to LOOK like they are TRYING to pass decent legislation, but in reality, both parties are on the dole, and take their instructions from the corporations who pay them (which I assume is way more than the American people pay them), and NOTHING EVER GETS ACCOMPLISHED IN WASHINGTON THESE DAYS.
I am trying to look at and participate in politics without using the lens of LEFT-RIGHT, DEMOCRAT-REPUBLICAN, and see what else I can do besides take a side, in this pointless stand-still gridlock that is what Washington politics has become.
I mean, I’ve always identified with the Dems, because they espouse ideals that are the most similar to my own, however, I do not see very many of the Dems acting upon their beliefs, and the leaders of their party in the Congress are way too connected to the good ole boys - just look at who they nominated to the “Super Committee”, NO SUPER CHAMPIONS OF THE PEOPLE in that lot - and then they appointed a leader who is, what a shock, from the Republican side - that completely tips the balance, again, no surprise there!
I am not fooled by Pelosi or Reid. They do not believe in transparency in Government — they would arrest and punish Julian Assange if they could. They are not standing up for the Tar Sands protesters, they had not a word to say, nor a hand to lend regarding the Scott Walker/Wisconsin action, they never investigated and tried the Bush/Cheney administration for illegal war crimes against humanity, they continue to finance these illegal wars, and on and on and on…this is not true Democracy in any sense of the word. As long as we have Lobbyists, the Big Corporations will continue to dictate policy, and the Reid/Pelosi team seems perfectly fine with that.
I mean, think about it. Do the Dems REALLY walk the walk? I think not. They SAY one thing, but their actions prove that their greatest allegiance is to the Corporatocracy, not to “WE THE PEOPLE”…
I am entering a new phase, exploring political activism without aligning myself with the Democratic party any more. They do not DO what they promise. Obama has proven the futility of putting our hopes in a person with a (D) after their name, who nonetheless rarely delivers or helps to create the Democratic vision.
I’m not sure where I’m going with this, but I’m fed up with this D/R war, and I just don’t think I can handle a future with 18 months of pointless Presidential Election coverage. I remember back in 2008 when the pundits spent weeks speculating on who would win, Hillary or Giuliani. What a waste of the air waves. I found that I really was much more relaxed this past month, not seeing John Boehner’s face on TV daily, causing me serious stress, and a constant knot in my stomach.
I have to find a better way to channel my desires to help set this planet right, because relying on the Dems to do anything has proven to be a hollow, pointless, frustrating waste of time. I just don’t have any faith in the “Democratic” process that is our Congress…it is not functioning as a proper vehicle for the will of the people. Basically, the lunatics have taken control and are running the asylum. I can’t take this aggravation,.I need to do something else besides carp at the latest Republican speakos.
The Cable News networks all report the same few stories, and consistently ignore the really important issues (we never got coverage of Fukushima after the first few days, or the Julian Assange/Wikileaks situation, because the Government’s stated policy is very different from what they actually want for him. Has any network even reported that Darryl Hannah was arrested yesterday for protesting the KEYSTONE XL PIPELINE? - the list is long of the news we are not being shown).
I’m losing confidence in all the cable networks, including MSNBC (owned by GE, who, by the way, is a company that PAYS NO TAXES), but likes to paint the picture that they are the bulwark of liberal politics, when in reality it’s just a corporate owned outlet for delivering the news in a slightly more left position than the other side, but it, by no means, gives ALL the IMPORTANT news. It feels like we are always treated to the icing, but never the actual cake.
I am working on only getting my news from Independent Media - The Guardian UK, Salon.com, Link TV/Democracy Now, The Young Turks, The Nation, Green 960, TVNewsLies.org - they have no corporate masters who they have to serve, and these organization seem to be able to actually deliver the REAL news. The Guardian, UK constantly delivers more accurate, in-depth, varied coverage of the spectrum of the US News BETTER than any American news outlet does - that’s madness!
I’m done with the Democrat/Republican dynamic. It’s a puppet show, designed to keep us in terror, and paralyzed, thinking we can do nothing to improve things. I’m looking into what previous activists have done in the past, to create change, because I have lost all faith that the Congress can do anything constructive, that is actually for the good of the people, ever.
Here’s a small excerpt from this excellent post by Chris Hedges that I found on Truthout.org and I hope you take the time to read:
“A society is in serious trouble when its political pariahs have at the core of their demands a return to the rule of law. This inversion, with our political and cultural outcasts demanding a respect for law, highlights the awful fact that the most radical and retrograde forces within the body politic have seized control. These forces demand that we serve the dictates of the marketplace. They are destroying all legal impediments to corporate exploitation and profit, as well as dismantling the regulatory agencies that once protected the citizen. They defend torture, offshore penal colonies, black sites and kidnapping (they call it “extraordinary rendition”) of state enemies. They protect and abet financial fraud. They wage pre-emptive war. They refuse to restore habeas corpus. Without warrants, they monitor, eavesdrop on and wiretap tens of millions of citizens. They order the assassination of U.S. citizens. They deny due process. They give corporations the status of persons. They ignore the suffering of the unemployed and the poor, slashing basic social service programs while doling out hundreds of billions in taxpayer funds to corporations. On these key issues, the only ones that really matter, there is no disagreement among trolls from either the self-identified left or the self-identified right. All their public disputes in the election cycle are a carnival act.
All conventional forms of dissent, from electoral politics to open debates, have been denied us. We cannot rely on the institutions that once made piecemeal and incremental reform possible. The only route left is to disconnect as thoroughly as possible from the consumer society and engage in acts of civil disobedience and obstruction. The more we sever ourselves from the addictions of fossil fuel and the consumer society, the more we begin to create a new paradigm for community. The more we engage in physical acts of defiance—as Bill McKibben and others did recently in front of the White House to protest the building of the Keystone XL pipeline, which would increase the flow of “dirty” tar sands oil from Alberta, Canada, to refineries on the Gulf of Mexico—the more we can keep alive a new, better way of relating to each other and the ecosystem.
Most important, we must stop being afraid…

If by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people - their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties - someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal,” then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal”.
