VIDEO: “Koch Brothers Exposed” film creator, Robert Greenwald, is interviewed by MSNBC’s Martin Bashir
I came up with a good idea today for a possible nationwide EASTER ACTION:
BOYCOTT KOCH BROTHERS PRODUCTS for Easter this year.
That includes these items for your party:
Dixie Cups
Vanity Fair Paper Plates
Mardi Gras Napkins
Brawny Paper Towels
Quilted Northern Toilet Paper
And of course, if you are driving, don’t buy Koch Brothers Gas Products:
Union Gas
Conoco
Union76
If everyone chose alternate brands of these items nationwide, it might actually make people take notice, at least. I doubt it would affect Koch’s bottom line very much, but who knows, right? It could create a stir.
Ralph Nader: Koch Brothers Led Fight to Defend Formaldehyde Despite Carcinogenic Evidence
The government has added formaldehyde to a list of known carcinogens, despite years of lobbying by the chemical industry. Formaldehyde is found in plastics and often used in plywood, particle board, mortuaries and hair salons. The government also said Friday that styrene, which is used in boats, bathtubs and in disposable foam plastic cups and plates, may cause cancer. The conservative billionaire Koch Brothers have led the lobbying effort against labeling formaldehyde as a carcinogen. Georgia Pacfic, a subsidiary of Koch Industries, is one of the country’s top producers of formaldehyde.
Speaking at the Center for American Progress Action Fund today, House energy committee ranking member Henry Waxman (D-CA) railed against the toxic influence of Koch Industries on efforts to fight global warming. Waxman, who fought polluters to pass the Clean Air Act of 1990, is dismayed by the level of outright science denial among the Republican Party today, exemplified by their votes to slash and burn environmental protection, and the Upton-Inhofe bill to reverse the scientific finding that carbon pollution threatens public health:
It apparently no longer matters in Congress what health experts and scientists think. All that seems to matter is what Koch Industries thinks.
Watch a compilation of Waxman’s remarks:
“The new Republican majority has a lot of leeway to rewrite laws,” Waxman also said, “but they don’t have the ability to rewrite the laws of nature.”
On the eve of the November midterm elections, Koch Industries sent an urgent letter to most of its 50,000 employees advising them on whom to vote for and warning them about the dire consequences to their families, their jobs and their country should they choose to vote otherwise.
The Nation obtained the Koch Industries election packet for Washington State—which included a cover letter from its president and COO, David Robertson; a list of Koch-endorsed state and federal candidates; and an issue of the company newsletter, Discovery, full of alarmist right-wing propaganda.
Legal experts interviewed for this story called the blatant corporate politicking highly unusual, although no longer skirting the edge of legality, thanks to last year’s Citizens United Supreme Court decision, which granted free speech rights to corporations.
