THEY'RE STILL SIGNING THE PETITION TO SAVE THE BEES!

YOU can SIGN, too.  Also, you can go to this site, and watch the scrolling signatures go by.  It’s kinda fascinating.  Sadly, there are no signers from the entire Eastern Hemisphere, we need signers from Japan, India, China, Russia, Korea, Hawaii, Africa, The Middle East…if you know anyone in any of those places, please send them this link…there’s gotta be more than a mere one million people on our entire planet who CARE ABOUT LOSING THE BEES!!

One country is FAR surpassing all others in signatures…can you guess which one?  If you sign the petition, and send me a message that you signed it, I’ll tell you which country is leading all the rest in citizens who care about SAVING THE BEES!

BAYER STOCKHOLDERS VOTE TO KILL THE BEES
…but citizens around the WORLD are still signing the PETITION demanding the cessation of production of BEE-KILLING PESTICIDES!
Update: 30 April  2012
It’s outrageous. Despite our massive petition delivery directly into the Bayer meeting, major shareholders voted to keep their bee-killing poisons. Let’s keep up the pressure — sign the petition and send to everyone. When we reach one million signatures the petition will be delivered to the Board of Management and Supervisory Board of Bayer, and our next step is to call for strong government regulation to save the bees.
Posted: 24 April  2012 Quietly, globally, billions of bees are dying, threatening our crops and food. But if Bayer stops selling one group of pesticides, we could save bees from extinction. Four European countries have begun banning these poisons, and some bee populations are already recovering. But Bayer, the largest producer of neonicotinoids, has lobbied hard to keep them on the market. Now, massive global pressure from Avaaz and others has forced them to consider the facts, and in 24 hours, Bayer shareholders will vote on a motion that could stop these toxic chemicals. Let’s all act now and shame the shareholders to stop killing bees. The pressure is working, and this is our best chance to save the bees. Sign the urgent petition and send this to everyone — let’s reach half a million signers and deliver it directly to shareholders tomorrow in Germany!

SAVE THE BEES PETITION STILL GOING STRONG!

Even though the Bayer Shareholders Meeting was on Friday, people still CARE ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THE BEES and people are still signing the petition!

Unfortunately, it is almost exclusively being signed by folks in the Western Hemisphere.

There are no signers from India, China, Russia, Japan, The Middle East, Africa or Hawaii.

PLEASE IF YOU RESIDE IN ONE OF THE COUNTRIES LISTED ABOVE WHICH ARE MOSTLY ALL IN THE EASTERN HEMISPHERE, COULD YOU PLEASE RE-BLOG THIS, SO WE CAN GET ACTIVISTS FROM BOTH HEMISPHERES REGISTERING THEIR CONCERN?

WE NEED TO SPREAD THE WORD IN THE EASTERN HEMISPHERE!!

So people are STILL signing it…we’re up to almost 830,000 people (about 10,000 people per hour are signing it)!….but ALL the signers are in the Western Hemisphere (Europe, Canada, USA, Central and South America)…nobody in India, China, Russia, Japan, Africa, Hawaii or the Middle East.

If we could just get ONE person in each of those countries and/or areas, we might be able to get it to go viral throughout their area.

My question:  Do you know anyone in any of those countries you could send it to, that might sign and reblog it?

Here’s the link to sign (or just watch the scroll!), if you are so inclined:

Please let me know if you can help out in this way.

Thanks!

P.S.  There is NOTHING more important than the SURVIVAL of LIVING BEINGS on EARTH, please do your part.

P.P.S. I know, it’s annoying, all this activism I demand, I will not apologize…we ALL should be activists, if we want to have a healthy world to leave to our ancestors.

Scientists call for GLOBAL BAN on Bee-Killing Pesticides (4/23/12)

[NOTE* from Leftish:  WE’VE LOST 1/3 of the World’s Bees.  Do you like Cantaloupes?  Do you like Tomatoes?  Do you like Stone Fruit?  Do you CARE?  I’m sorry to bother you with this, yet again, but the survival of all living beings on the planet is in jeopardy.  Maybe you didn’t realize that.  Please take a minute out of your busy day to read this, thanks.]

With a myriad of concrete evidence now in plain view, there is simply no denying that pesticides are a direct cause of massive bee declines all around the world. And despite continued denial by corporate-whore governments in the U.S., the U.K., and elsewhere that have sided with the chemical manufacturers on the matter, scientists and agricultural experts from all corners of the globe are joining together as one to call for a worldwide ban on neonicotinoids, a class of pesticides that has been definitively linked to causing Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD).

Three recent field studies, two of which were published in the journal Science, confirm that even sub-lethal exposure to neonicotinoid pesticides among bees causes them to lose their way when out foraging. Many conventional food crops are pretreated or sprayed with neonicotinoid pesticides, which leads to the contamination of pollen and nectar that bees collect.

“The data, both ours and others, right now merits a global ban,” said Chensheng Li, author of theHarvard Universitystudy that confirmed neonicotinoid pesticides as a primary cause of CCD. “Our study clearly demonstrated that imidacloprid is responsible for causing CCD, and the survival of the control hives that we set up side-by-side to the pesticide-treated hives augments this conclusion.”

Li says removing neonicotinoids from global use for at least five years would leave plenty of time for researchers to study and observe how bee populations respond. If bee populations increase during this time, which is the expected outcome, then it would be abundantly clear that the scientific community is correct in its assessments of the situation.

In the U.K., the widespread negative effects of neonicotinoid use are already being felt, as many crops now have to be hand-pollinated as a result of bee losses. According to data compiled by scientists at Reading University, the population of honey bees kept in managed hives in the U.K. has dropped by half, as have solitary bees. And wild honey bees are virtually extinct, according to the figures.

“Unless we halt the decline in British bees our farmers will have to rely on hand-pollination, sending food prices rocketing,” said Paul de Zylva, nature campaigner atFriends of the Earth(FoE), a group advocating for the removal of neonicotinoids from agricultural use (http://www.foe.co.uk/what_we_do/the_bee_cause_35033.html).

The U.S.-based advocacy group Beyond Pesticides and dozens of commercial beekeepers and honey producers have also filed a legal petition demanding that the U.S.Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) take action to ban clothianidin, another neonicotinoid linked to killing bees (http://www.beyondpesticides.org/dailynewsblog/?p=6919).

URGENT: PLEASE HELP - BAN THE POISON THAT THREATENS THE BEES...this is IMPORTANT!

Here’s the buzz: American honey bees are disappearing at an alarming rate and the government knows why.

Scientists say a pesticide called clothianidin, made by chemical giant Bayer, is strongly linked to the rapid decline in bee populations. When exposed to the chemical, bees get lost: they are literally unable to find their way home back to the hive and drop dead from exhaustion.

Susan Mariner uses her backyard garden to grow extra fruits and veggies for her family and teach her children where their food comes from — and in the past few years, she’s seen the decline in bees firsthand.

When Susan heard about the recent studies linking this specific chemical to the widespread death of the bees who pollinate our food, she started a petition on Change.org to get the chemical banned. Click here to sign Susan’s petition asking the Environmental Protection Agency to ban these bee-killing pesticides ASAP.

One-third of the U.S. food supply relies on honey bees. Without bees to pollinate crops, many essential (and favorite) foods are at risk, including apples, squash, tomatoes, strawberries, almonds, and even chocolate.

Several countries, including Germany and France, have already banned clothianidin. And after the bans, bee populations began to rise again.

But in the U.S., clothianidin is used on millions of acres of crops and American beekeepers report losses of up to 90% of their bees. Many worry that their hives won’t survive another season. Sign Susan’s petition urging the EPA to save the bees and immediately end the harmful pesticide’s use.

Thanks for being a change-maker,

- Corinne and the Change.org team

Albert Einstein, who liked to make bold claims (often wrong), famously said that “if the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, man would have only four years to live”.
Such “apocalyptic scenarios” are overblown, said Rabobank. The staples of corn, wheat, and rice are all pollinated by wind.
However, animal pollination is essential for nuts, melons and berries, and plays varying roles in citrus fruits, apples, onions, broccoli, cabbage, sprouts, courgettes, peppers, aubergines, avocados, cucumbers, coconuts, tomatoes and broad beans, as well as coffee and cocoa.
This is the fastest growing and most valuable part of the global farm economy. Between 80pc and 90pc of pollination comes from domesticated honey bees. Moths and butterflies lack the range to penetrate large fields.

f="http://leftish.tumblr.com/post/2767543100/link-correction-petition-to-save-the-bees-do-you">LINK CORRECTION: PETITION TO SAVE THE BEES. Do you like to eat food? Can you take 2 minutes to SIGN the PETITION to ban the Chemical that is killing the Bees?

I mean, really.  I’m very concerned.  Aren’t you?

Please take less than five minutes to Sign the Petition to the EPA to ban clothianidin, and SAVE THE BEES!

Scientists have been scrambling to understand the crisis — termed Colony Collapse Disorder — but have yet to find a single, definitive cause. There are likely multiple interacting causes, and mounting evidence suggests that one widely used class of pesticides may be a critical factor.

One such chemical, called clothianidin, is produced by the German corporation Bayer CropScience. It is used as a treatment on crop seeds, including corn and canola, and works by expressing itself in the plants’ pollen and nectar. Not coincidentally, these are honey bees’ favorite sources of food.

Shockingly, no major independent study has verified the safety of this pesticide. While clothianidin has been used on corn — the largest crop in the U.S. — since 2003, it was officially approved by the Environmental Protection Agency last year on the basis of a single study, conducted by Bayer. However, recently leaked documents show that the study was actually debunked by the agency’s own scientists, so the pesticide was effectively approved with no scientific backing.

European countries that have banned this chemical have seen rapid re-growth of their bee communities.

I really hope somebody will reblog this - what could be more important than our own survival - that’s what’s at stake.

LOSING THE BEES IS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT THAN TUMBLR!!!

If you have no food, you will die.  You will not care about Tumblr if you are starving to death, or fighting with others for food.  Really, really.

THIS IS A BIG DEAL.

And all it takes to fix the problem is getting the EPA to ban this one chemical.  And if this story gets picked up by the Mainstream Media, and there is enough pressure put upon the EPA, they will have to capitulate and ban this chemical.

European nations that have banned clothianidin have witnessed rapid regrowth of their bee communities.  So there is hope that the bees can survive, but not if this chemical continues to blanket America.

I don’t know what more I can do, as one person, than put this information out there and hope that somebody with more followers than I have, picks up on this CRUCIAL STORY and deems it worthy of a reblog.

Does anybody care?

REBLOG: PLEASE SIGN PETITION TO SAVE THE BEES

Over the weekend more than 1/2 million people signed the petition to the EPA to stop these harmful chemicals.  European countries that have banned them have seen dramatic re-growth of their bee populations.

We have no time to lose — a recent study shows 96% of our four main bee species have been wiped out. Let’s build a buzz across the nation calling on the EPA to outlaw these killer chemicals and save our bees and our food. Sign the emergency petition now and send it on to everyone and we’ll deliver it to the top decision makers:
