EIGHT MILLION PEOPLE, what the HELL are we doing?  Can you imagine if we arrested 8 million people for having a beer after work?  And that’s in essence what we’re doing here…but the politicians are immovable.  You know, the Republicans are NEVER going to do it, and the Democrats honestly, nine times out of ten, are cowards…’Oh, my God, the Republicans will yell at us!’”

South American Summit: Obama says "No" to Legalizing Drugs

via digg.com

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and others want to talk about what they call the failed war on drugs, as President Obama tries to focus on economic ties.

CARTAGENA, Colombia April 14, 2012 — President Obama sought Saturday to emphasize the robust economic relationship between the United States and Latin America, and he flatly ruled out legalizing drugs as a way to combat the illegal trafficking that has ravaged the region.

Facing calls at a regional summit to consider decriminalization, Obama said he is open to a debate about drug policy, but he believes that legalization could lead to greater problems in countries hardest hit by drug-fueled violence.

“Legalization is not the answer,” Obama told other hemispheric leaders at the two-day Summit of the Americas.

“The capacity of a large-scale drug trade to dominate certain countries if they were allowed to operate legally without any constraint could be just as corrupting, if not more corrupting, than the status quo,” he said.

Obama told Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, host of the summit, that he is willing to discuss whether American drug laws are “doing more harm than good in certain places.”

Pat Robertson: Marijuana should be legalized, regulated like alcohol; war on drugs has failed

March 8, 12:56 PM

RICHMOND, Va. — Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says marijuana should be legalized and treated like alcohol because the government’s war on drugs has failed.
The outspoken evangelical Christian and host of “The 700 Club” on the Virginia Beach-based Christian Broadcasting Network he founded said the war on drugs is costing taxpayers billions of dollars. He said people should not be sent to prison for marijuana possession.
The 81-year-old first became a self-proclaimed “hero of the hippie culture” in 2010 when he called for ending mandatory prison sentences for marijuana possession convictions.
“I just think it’s shocking how many of these young people wind up in prison and they get turned into hardcore criminals because they had a possession of a very small amount of a controlled substance,” Robertson said on his show March 1. “The whole thing is crazy. We’ve said, ‘Well, we’re conservatives, we’re tough on crime.’ That’s baloney.”

VIDEO: Cenk Uygur: ‘Bush and Obama both smoked pot, and how many millions of people do they have in jail for it?’

President Obama said he wouldn’t enforce federal laws prohibiting medical marijuana, but now Rolling Stone reports Obama has retained or reappointed Bush-era Department of Justice officials who, in fact, have gone after pot clinics at a faster rate. Cenk and Power Panelists John Fugelsang and Michael Shure have a decidedly un-chill fight over whether Obama has abandoned the majority of Americans who support a more liberal drug policy. “President Bush and President Obama both smoked pot, and how many millions of people do they have in jail for smoking pot?” Cenk says. “There is a political calculus to it,” Shure points out. “Cannabis has been in this country a lot longer than white people have been,” Fugelsang reminds us, and both Washington and Jefferson even grew it.

Yet, not one death can be attributed to it.
How many Drunk Driving Deaths are there per year?
This is madness!
The Cigarette and Pharmaceutical industries rampantly control our Congress, and make sure that no SANE LEGISLATION gets passed.
The War on Drugs finances the Prison and Justice systems, as well as keeps many businesses afloat that furnish Prisons with their gear…none of this has anything to do with the Health and Well-Being of our Citizens.
The Constitution is constantly being “reinterpreted” to REMOVE not PROTECT our FREEDOMS!

f="http://leftish.tumblr.com/post/17843871845/obamas-war-on-drugs-is-definitely-not-a">OBAMA’S “WAR ON DRUGS” is definitely NOT a “Job-Creator”…

Does he not realize how our economy is fueled by the Weed Industry? Does he not realize how many jobs he kills every time the DOJ conducts a raid?

Especially here in California!  Who do you think is buying all those shiny new Pick-Up Trucks?

I don’t understand targeting pot-heads!

“Cannabis has been in this country a lot longer than White People have been, and it was used as a painkiller back in colonial days - when the biggest drug problem in this country is the same as the biggest drug problem today: ALCOHOL!

Washington grew it, Jefferson grew it.  Nowadays, we’d lock them up if we ever locked up rich, white guys for pot.” ~ John Fugelsang

Why is the Obama Administration Suddenly Fixated on Stomping out Medical Pot?

via Alternet

Broken promises are nothing new in Washington, DC. Yet even by the Beltway’s jaded standards, President Obama’s role reversal from one time medicinal cannabis sympathizer to White House weed-whacker is remarkable.

Indeed, the man who once pledged on the campaign trail that he was “not going to be using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state laws on this issue,” has – since taking the Presidential oaths of office – done virtually everything in his administration’s power to do precisely that. Yet he’s taken these steps at the very time that a record number of Americans, including 57 percent of democrats and a whopping 69 percent of self-described liberals, endorse doing just the opposite. Nonetheless, in recent months, the Obama administration – via a virtual alphabet soup of federal agencies – has launched an unprecedented series of attacks against medical cannabis patients, providers, and in some cases even their advocates.

We don’t put alcoholics in prison. I’m just against the War on Drugs the way its happening.  There’s other ways you can handle it.

If you treat it like a crime, and you throw these kids, like we have for decades, in prison because they smoked a little bit of marijuana, and they come out violent criminals, that “War on Drugs” has failed.

I’m against the Federal “War on Drugs”, I’m not pro-drug usage, as a matter of fact I’m very critical of the carelessness of doctors who give way too many pain pills.  There’s more people addicted to prescription drugs than there are to illegal drugs!”
